RFID Cards

YouCard is an official partner of the RFID chip manufacturers NXP, LEGIC and HID. We offer the most popular RFID chip technologies, such as the MIFARE and LEGIC series. In contrast to contact smart cards, RFID cards do not require direct physical contact in order to be read out or written. This is done via a transponder, which is integrated in the plastic cards.

We offer RFID chip cards that operate on the frequency of 13.56 MHz or 125 kHz and comply to the ISO 14443 standard.

What is an RFID card?

RFID cards are PVC plastic cards that are equipped with a chip for contactless data transmission, which is externally unrecognizable by the user. RFID cards are often referred to as transponder cards or contactless smart cards.

The abbreviation RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID is a technology of automatic identification and data acquisition.

With RFID, data can be stored and read on an RFID chip (also transponder) without contact and without visual contact. For this data exchange, an RFID card communicates with a reader (also called an RFID reader). The data transmission between transponder and RFID reader takes place by means of electromagnetic waves.

There is a distinction between active and passive RFID technologies. In the most common passive RFID technologies, an inductive magnetic field is built up to provide the chip with energy for communication.

Active transponders have their own power supply (eg batteries, batteries). Passive RFID chips can therefore usually only communicate over a few centimeters, active transponders often bridge long distances.

What does an RFID card consist of?

Although not discernible at first glance, an RFID includes electronic elements that are embedded in the card body. Each RFID card consists of an antenna and a chip. Transponder cards therefore differ in frequency and storage capacity. Both components ultimately also define the read range of the chip card.

In most countries the chip manufacturers LEGIC and NXP Semiconductors (MIFARE) have the largest market shares. Both LEGIC and MIFARE RFID cards operate at the 13.56 MHz frequency and are often used for high-security identification solutions.
