Worth knowing about the Plastic Card

The ISO plastic card is defined by ISO 7810, 7811, 7813 and 7816 standards.

ISO 7810 defines the four formats for identification cards. The ID-1 format corresponds to the most widely used Plastic Card with the dimensions 85.6 x 53.98 mm. The ISO standards also define the card thickness of 30 mil (0.76 mm), the nature of the material (embossing for credit cards, type, positioning and coding of magnetic strips and contact chips.

The ISO 14443 (MIFARE) and 15693 (my-d, I-Code) standards define RFID smart cards. The strength of chip cards is approx. 0.81 mm.

Plastic cards may be provided with contact or contactless chips. For personalization, you can print smart cards and almost any other type of plastic cards with a card printer. The encoding can also be implemented using encoding modules that are either integrated in the card printer or modularly retrofittable.

At the beginning of each print job, the choice of the appropriate plastic cards must be made. Do I use a plain white blank card for my membership cards or do I choose a colored version?
